Today I came across a website I'd not seen before about Data Governance, but upon reading it, it became clear that what they were in fact referring to, is what I describe as Data Security.
That got me thinking - in my mind it is quite clear cut, although Data Security has to be aligned to Data Governance (after all the Data Owner would be a great place to start defining who should and should not have access to a certain set of data) I have never considered it to be a Data Management discipline, placing it instead firmly in the Risk Management camp.
But that is only my humble opinion and I'm really interested to find out what others think.
What are your views?
